nolaParent.com is a comprehensive online resource for parents within the Greater New Orleans community. Our goal is to provide relevant information and tools to parents and to support our local businesses and organizations.  There are six main components to nolaParent.com:

  • Local Resources is a business directory that provides information, links, phone numbers and reviews for local businesses such as schools, daycares, camps, toy and clothing stores, pediatricians, classes, family activities and much much more!

  • Local Lagniappe provides parents great discounts and promotions from local resources that you can download, print and present when paying for a product or service.
  • The Activities Calendar helps parents keep track of daily, weekly, monthly and annual activities and special events going on throughout the Greater New Orleans Area.

  • In the Classifieds section, parents can find babysitters and housekeepers (with references!), post an ad to sell your retired kid-related items, or find out about volunteer opportunities within the community.

  • Parent Forums provides a space where parents can exchange information about their experiences with products such as strollers, highchairs, parenting books, care seats, diapers, sun screen and toys, just to name a few.

  • My nolaParent is for registered users who want to personalize their nolaParent experience. Create profiles, send private messages to other nolaParents, keep track of preferred local resources, activities, events, and forum posts.

Our History

It all began with a conversation among a group of yogis taking a pre-natal yoga class. After going around the room and sharing frustrations about the city's limited resources and support systems for new and soon-to-be moms, email addresses were collected and an informal, local online discussion group called nolaMommies was formed. As the group continued to grow, its founder, Ashley Bond, decided it was time to take it to the next level and create a New Orleans "Parent" community. Working alongside her neighbor and fellow nolaMommie, Witney Arch, she decided to create a local website to serve as a central repository of information, resources, activities, and events for the New Orleans parent. In the Spring of 2008, nolaParent, LLC was born and in early 2009 nolaParent.com was launched.

Why the Pineapple?

The pineapple has a surprisingly rich history. Back in Colonial America, a pineapple on one's front steps signaled to weary travelers that they were welcome to stay a while to rest and renew. New Orleans architecture reflects the pineapple's history of hospitality in its entryways, water fountains, columns, and gates. And today, we introduce the pineapple to our nolaParent community as an expression of human warmth and family affection.

Founders

bondfamilybeachAshley Bond is from Texas and is married to a native New Orleanian. Skipper and Ashley have a daughter, Anson Elizabeth, who was born January 2007. Having spent 10 years in the legal marketing world, she decided to retire and devote her time to raising her daughter. In the fall of 2006, she founded a local online discussion group called nolaMommies, which grew organically into a group of about 100 mothers and 1 father. After realizing how valuable this online discussion group had become, she teamed up with Witney to create nolaParent so that all of the information, ideas, advice and support among this small local parenting community could be shared with and contributed by the rest.

She worked as a Corporate Technical Trainer for 7 years before leaving the corporate world to raise her son. Witney joined nolaMommies while pregnant with Cal and soon disovered, along with Ashley, that there was a need for an comprehensive online parenting resource in the New Orleans community. She hopes that the parents in the Greater New Orleans Area find what they need on nolaParent.com!
